![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I don’t know about you, but this is the sort of carry-on I’m regularly telling my kids off for (that’s a hot cup of tea Agnes!!): In the end though, I think that providing aspirational instruction to children trumps comforting them through life’s cold reality, so recommend this book to be burned in a pile of leaves. On the other hand, they do expose children to the realities of grown-up relationships, and will reassure children who don’t have nice grandparents that they’re not alone. On the one hand, this couple are pretty awful to each other, providing unsatisfactory role models. (Ladies take note: don’t give up after a few unsuccessful years of marriage – it’s never too late!) Problems Eventually the footwear disintegrates – he realizes he’s been a bit of a stubborn old coot, and she is emboldened with the prospect of changing other things she doesn’t like. He rejects her generous gift of a new pair, and she in turn then ignores his wishes and attempts to hide or destroy one of his favourite possessions.
